Labor Room
Labor Room
A labor room, also known as a delivery suite or birthing unit, is a hospital room where a woman in labor stays before being taken to the delivery room. It provides a safe space for prenatal care, delivery, and immediate postnatal care for the mother and infant.Labor rooms are usually attached to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG) ward and are open around the clock. They include: A team of doctors and nurses to ensure the safety of the mother and baby Minor interventions such as amniotomy and episiotomy A special newborn care facility for sick infants A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for very sick babies The number of labor beds in the facility is the most important factor in determining the space and layout. The labor-delivery-recovery (LDR) concept is more client-centric and ensures better care, privacy, and comfort. The floor of the labor room complex should be made of anti-skid material.
